Necrophosis Editions Explained: Consoles, DLC and Artbook

Necrophosis is sold under four names on three kinds of store, and two of those names sound almost the same. Full Consciousness and Subconsciousness are different products. This guide lists each one, where to buy it, what it contains and when it came out, so you can buy the version you actually want.

The short version

  • On PC, buy Necrophosis. The Subconsciousness chapter is a separate DLC, and the Digital Artbook is another separate add-on.
  • On PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, buy Necrophosis: Full Consciousness. It already contains the base game and the Subconsciousness chapter.
  • If you want a disc, the physical PS5 edition of Full Consciousness also includes The Shore.

Necrophosis (PC)

The base game. Necrophosis is a first-person horror adventure through a decaying world of bone and rot, drawn from the paintings of Zdzislaw Beksinski. There are no weapons; you explore and solve puzzles. It was developed by Ares Dragonis and Adonis Brosteanu and published by Dragonis Games.

  • Released on Steam on 25 April 2025 (app 2019760). Also sold on GOG.
  • A free demo has been on Steam since 10 May 2024.
  • Steam features: single-player, 16 achievements, full controller support, Steam Cloud.
  • Minimum PC: 64-bit Windows 10, Ryzen 3 3300X or Core i5-8400, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1060 (4 GB), 15 GB of storage.
  • Steam user reviews on 22 October 2026: Very Positive, 89% of 953.

Necrophosis: Subconsciousness (PC DLC)

A new story chapter for the PC version, released on Steam on 28 May 2026 (app 3837860). You need the base game to play it. The store page describes a short, self-contained chapter “designed to be completed in one sitting”, set in new surreal locations that lie deeper than anything in the main game and tell their story through poetic narration rather than direct exposition.

Its storage requirement rises to 20 GB. Steam reviews on 22 October 2026 stood at Mostly Positive, 79% of 52. The official announcement trailer went up on 2 March 2026.

Necrophosis: Digital Artbook (PC)

Also released on Steam on 28 May 2026 (app 4769800), as a separate purchase. It contains 110 pages of creatures, environments, renders and high-resolution 3D sculpts by Ares Dragonis, credited on the store page as the game’s solo artist. Much of the world of Necrophosis was sculpted directly in 3D rather than painted first, and the book shows that process.

It is a PDF. After purchase it appears in the game’s installation folder, for example under Steam\steamapps\common\Necrophosis\Artbook.

Necrophosis: Full Consciousness (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S)

The console edition, published by PQube and developed by Dragonis Games. It was announced on 3 March 2026, got its release date trailer on 14 April and launched on 28 May 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Full Consciousness bundles the base game with the Subconsciousness chapter, so console players get both stories in one purchase.

Console reviews landed from late May into July 2026. TheSixthAxis called it “an interesting and immersive experience”, and Impulsegamer wrote: “Death has never looked this mesmerizing!”

The physical PS5 edition, with The Shore

On the same day, 28 May 2026, PQube released a physical PS5 edition of Full Consciousness. Alongside Necrophosis and Subconsciousness it includes a bonus game: The Shore: Enhanced Edition, the studio’s first game, which had reached PS5 digitally on 30 April 2026 through Iphigames. Some retailers list the disc as “Necrophosis Full Consciousness + The Shore”, so search for both names if you shop by title.

The physical edition announced so far is for PS5. No physical Xbox edition had been announced as of October 2026.

Which one should you buy?

  • You play on PC and have never played it: Necrophosis. Add Subconsciousness when you finish the main game.
  • You already own it on PC: Subconsciousness is the new content. The Digital Artbook is for players who want to see how the world was made.
  • You play on PS5 or Xbox: Full Consciousness. There is no separate DLC to buy on console.
  • You collect discs, or you also want The Shore: the physical PS5 edition.

Why two names that sound alike?

The studio has not explained the names, so this is a reading. Necrophosis is about a decaying universe and what lies beneath it, and the DLC store page talks about descending into “deeper, unseen layers” of that world. Subconsciousness is the chapter that goes under the surface. Full Consciousness is the edition where both parts sit together. The names fit the theme. They also look alike on a store shelf, which is why this guide exists.
